What we're all about, and why we are doing this

The job bank was started by Phillip J. Milano at The Florida Times-Union in 1995 with the idea that newspapers, lacking in diversity in their newsrooms, needed a better way to link up with women and minorities looking for jobs.

The service was started in cooperation with The Times-Union's parent company, Morris Communications Corp., beginning as The Southeast Diversity Journalism Job Bank. It quickly gained national and international attention and was expanded to The National Diversity Journalism Job Bank.

The job bank is regarded as the nation's most comprehensive listing service for the industry, receiving thousands of inquiries per month and dozens of openings per week.

In an unprecedented arrangement with The Newspaper Association of America, the job bank was again expanded and renamed in early 1998, this time to include openings on the business-side of the industry. The National Diversity Newspaper Job Bank now posts openings in all aspects of the business, from advertising and editorial to public relations and circulation.

We hope our service is of help to you, either as a recruiter or job seeker. If you have any questions or comments, please send us some feedback.

That's it. Happy hunting!
