Below is a list of diversity-related links and journalism resources that should be of interest to journalists.

ASSOCIATIONS& ORGANIZATIONS:
 

  • ABYZ News Links - ABYZ News Links is a portal to online news sources from around the world.  It is primarily composed of newspapers but also includes many broadcast stations, internet services, magazines, and press agencies.  Please note that ABYZ News Links does not contain actual news content but only links to other news sources.
  • American Copy Editors Society - A professional organization of copy editors, that is dedicated to improving the quality of journalism and the working lives of journalists. Their main purpose is to educate their members--and others in the news business--in ways of improving the standards of copy editing and increasing the value the news industry places on the craft. While their primary focus is on newspaper copy editing, they welcome editors from other publications, as well as academic representatives and students. 
  • American Press Institute - Founded by newspaper publishers in 1946, the American Press Institute is the oldest and largest center devoted solely to training and professional development for the news industry and journalism educators. 
  • American Society of Newspaper Editors - The American Society of Newspaper Editors is dedicated to the leadership of American journalism. It is committed to fostering the public discourse essential to democracy; helping editors maintain the highest standards of quality, improve their craft and better serve their communities; and preserving and promoting core journalistic values, while embracing and exploring change.
  • Asian American Journalists Association - AAJA  was founded in 1981 by a few Asian American journalists who felt a need to support one another and to encourage more Asian Americans to pursue journalistm at a time when there were few Asian American faces in the media. 
  • ASNE's "National Journalism Associations" link page - Founded in 1991, the Council of Presidents of National Journalism Organizations encourages the interchange of information and ideas among the national news/editorial associations. Currently twenty-eight organizations belong to the council, and others with a similar focus are welcome to join. 
  • Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications - ARJMC is an international association of some 3,200 journalism/mass communication faculty, students, administrators, and professionals. AEJMC's members come from more than 30 countries, with the majority working in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1912, AEJMC is the oldest and largest association of journalism and mass communication educators and administrators at the college level. 
  • Bay Area Black Journalists Association - The Bay Area Black Journalists Association (BABJA), was formed in March, 1982, as an organization of African American media professionals and students representing radio, television, print, public relations, online journalism and advertising. BABJA has become the Bay Area's black media organization of choice. 
  • Bay Area Black Media Coalition - The Bay Area Black Media Coalition's (BABMC) is part of a larger organization known as the National Black Media Coalition (NBMC). The NBMC was founded in 1973 and was organized to offer training and technical support for Blacks as well as represent their views before the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). 
  • Black Broadcasters Alliance - The BBA is comprised of owners and professionals who want to see equality and real opportunity for African Americans employed in the broadcasting industry and or who are in pursuit of ownership.
  • Broadcast Education Association - The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) was established in 1955. It was initially established as the Association for Professional Broadcast Education.  The BEA serves as the critical link between the college professors who teach tomorrow’s radio and television employees and the professionals working in the broadcasting industry. 
  • California Chicano News Media Association - The California Chicano News Media Association is a non-profit, professional organization with 400 members nationwide and seven chapters in alifornia.  CCNMA's mission is to promote diversity in the news media by providing encouragement, scholarships and educational programs for Latinos pursuing careers in the news media, and to foster an accurate and fair portrayal of Latinos in the news media, and promoting the social, economic and professional advancement of Latino journalists. 
  • California Newspaper Publishers Association - A nonprofit trade association representing the daily and weekly newspapers of California. The Association is governed by a 35-member Board of Directors elected by Active Member newspapers. 
  • Committee of Concerned Journalists - The Committee of Concerned Journalists is a consortium of reporters, editors, producers, publishers, owners and academics worried about the future of the profession.  To secure journalism's future, the group believes that journalists from all media, geography, rank and generation must be clear about what sets our profession apart from other endeavors. To accomplish this, the group is creating a national conversation among journalists about principles. 
  • Disability Media Project - (NCDJ) is a new non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the fairness, accuracy and diversity of news reporting on disability.  We do this by developing tools to help journalists and educatorsexamine the complexity of disability issues from differing perspectives.  
  • The Freedom Forum - The Freedom Forum is a nonpartisan, international foundation dedicated to free press, free speech and free spirit for all people.  The foundation focuses on four main priorities: the Newseum, First Amendment freedoms, newsroom diversity and world press freedom.
  • Freelance Editorial Association - Founded in 1970, EFA works to raise the professional status of its members and to make the freelance life more dynamic and rewarding.  For clients of freelancers, EFA is a nationwide bank of professionals experienced in the full range of editorial disciplines. 
  • Freelance Online - Freelance Online is a professional online service for freelancers in the publishing and advertising fields. It serves as a directory for employers and as a resource and information center for freelancers.  Freelance Online was launched in January 1996. Located in a suburb of Philadelphia, Freelance Online is committed to serving freelancers and employers already established and those who are new to the world of freelancing. Freelance Online's goal is to provide the most comprehensive listing of freelancers available, including not only established, seasoned professionals but also fresh, new talent.
  • Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation -  GLAAD is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of individuals and events in all media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. 
  • The International Women's Media Foundation - The IWMF was launched in 1990 with the mission to strengthen the role of women in the news media around the world, based on the belief that no press is truly free unless women share an equal voice. 
  • The International Newspaper Marketing Association (INMA) - We, the members of INMA, envision the modern newspaper company as the central informational and commercial instrument for the market it serves -- and the foundation for individual freedom and active citizenship in an increasingly inter-connected global community. The newspaper company will best meet its societal responsibilities by utilising marketing principles to achieve financial strength, integrity in its products, and responsiveness to its customers.
  • Journalism and Women Symposium - AWS supports the personal growth and professional empowerment of women in newsrooms and works toward a more accurate portrayal of the whole society.

  • Journalism Education Association - The Journalism Education Association (JEA) is a collection of about 100 people from the South Pacific who are either involved with journalism education and/or training, or are committed to the objectives of the association.
