Tip for October
Question:

When faxing or mailing my resume should I include the Job Number?
Tip:

If you plan to fax or mail your resume, make sure it is readable and scannable.  Although a creative font may seem to spice up a resume it in fact inhibits the computer's ability to read the individual words, thereby lowering your chances of being selected in a search. In other words, use a standard format (single sided only). Please include the Job Number and/or the Job Title in the cover letter or on the right side of your resume.  Also, please tell the employer where you viewed their job listing (i.e. job bank, newspaper, etc.).

Additional Tips:

For certain positions, you may want to have two version of your resume:

  • A scannable resume for the computer to read with detailed information
  • The second for the recruiter to read during an interview – possibly with creative layout and design also with detailed information.

Good Luck!
